Brushless DC Motor Controller Design, Build and Test

Brushless DC Motor
Controller
Design, Build and Test

Introduction

Industry-based master’s project focused on the design, development, and testing of a high-power motor control system.

This project required the design, building and testing of a motor controller for high-power applications at HeliMods. The product developed was of a PCB which took DC power to control the speed of a three-phase brushless DC motor. Considerations were made in terms of dimensions, thermal properties, performance, power and aerospace regulations.

Due to commercial confidentiality, detailed schematics, PCB layouts, and firmware are not included. This page presents a high-level overview of the system architecture and key engineering considerations.
